EDUCATION WITH A TREAT
Children in their adolescent age have a desire to be always free. The idea of sitting in a closed room with a History book in front of them is revolting. But what if the entire syllabus is shown to them before their eyes; then their attention is guaranteed.
Some schools still lack this insight, but thankfully not all ! Amongst these few is St. Francis Xavier School. Realizing this desire of the teen students of Class IX and X, they were taken to the ultimate education and entertainment zone – The Jantar Mantar in Delhi.
Till date except for the examination days there has been only one day when the attendance of Class IX and X was hundred percent; and that day was the 24th of October, 2006. Of course there was a reason – to receive the LEAST boring History class of the lifetime. The entire army of Class IX and X of St. Francis Xavier left for Delhi. All the tickets were reserved for the Rajdhani Express at 10’o clock.
The school authorities did not forget a good lodging as the students steped down at Delhi next day and reached Hotel Plaza. Of course they were just too tired to visit anywhere at least till they had their siesta. So they plunged on their soft beds. Each room was shared by two students.
At sharp 5’O clock, all the students were taken to the Jantar Mantar. Students of senior section were informed that Jantar Mantar was built by Sawai Jai Singh II. The working of Sundial was readily understood with greatest excitement. The students were pretty displeased to leave the place. They actually wanted to study – History !!!
That was not the end of their treat. A lovely sundae treat at Rollick Room and then back to their hotel to enjoy the delicious dinner was one of the most exciting parts. The thought of being free and happy !!!
Early the next day all left to catch the train….. and were depressed of having finished their “educational trip”. Well that shows the strength of “education” if it is taught in the right spirit !!!
